North Korea may be planning satellite EMP attack

“Such an attack could kill nine of 10 Americans by starvation and societal collapse”  Former director of the CIA James Woolsey

THE US could be plunged into blackout after warnings that the country’s power grid is vulnerable to a North Korean attack.

The Pentagon is rushing to protect the country’s power lifeline amid escalating tensions with Kim Jong-un’s plucky regime.

Currently, defence officials are working on an “alternative communications network” in case of an attack.

And worryingly for the Trump administration, North Korea has the capacity to launch an electromagnetic pulse (EMP).

That’s according to former director of the CIA James Woolsey.

He recently wrote: “A single warhead delivered by a North Korean satellite could blackout the national electric grid and other life-sustaining critical infrastructures for over a year.

“Such an attack could kill nine of 10 Americans by starvation and societal collapse.”

Woolsey urged President Trump to urgently modernise the country’s defences.

He added: “Launch a crash programme to harden against EMP attack and the US electric grid to preserve American civilisation and hundreds of millions of lives.

“This could be a part of President Trump’s infrastructure modernization project.”

It doesn’t stop there, though.

David Grantham, a fellow at the Dallas-based National Center for Policy Analysis, said: “America’s adversaries recognise the advantage of electromagnetic pulse and promote it as a 21st century means of attack.

“Iran mentions EMP over 20 times in its military doctrine. Evidence suggests that North Korea even simulated an EMP attack in 2013.”

Kim Jong-un has been making many threats lately about striking the U.S. mainland and turning America into a ball of fire. The executive director of the Task Force on National and Homeland Security, Dr. Peter Vincent Pry, who also sits on a Congressional committee regarding the issue, warns that North Korea could already be planning a satellite borne EMP attack which could kill millions in North America.

There have been many reports lately on the damage an electromagnetic pulse attack (EMP) attack would inflict on the homeland. All electronic capability would be instantly destroyed. This would mean no food production, no computers, no water, no energy. Millions of Americans could starve.

North Korea is practicing a “cyberage version” of battleship diplomacy so they can always have “one of [their satellites] very close to being over the United States,” said Dr. Pry, writes The Independent. Detonating a high-altitude nuclear pulse over the United States would be devastating. The hermit kingdom launched two satellites in 2012 and 2014 that overfly the United States every 94 minutes.

Dr. Pry believes the North Koreans may want to use an EMP attack capability as a bargaining chip against the United States’ efforts to ramp up the pressure on the North through sanctions, military pressure, and an American alliance with the Chinese against the North.
