THE pound has jumped against the euro amid mounting fears over a toxic cocktail of political risks that threaten the future of the European Union (EU).
The euro also fell against the dollar to 1.066, reaching its lowest level in a week.
Investors are worried over the growing possibility of a Marine Le Pen presidency in France, when national elections take place later this year.
The anti-Brussels candidate launched her campaign this week and could lead to a French exit out of the eurozone if she wins.

Head of the European Central Bank (ECB) Mario Draghi also added to pressure on the euro this week, after he reiterated his commitment to the huge money-printing programme.
The policymaker also lashed out at claims from Donald Trump’s administration that Europe was deliberately weakening the currency for trade benefits.
