Putin has raised the specter of nuclear war for the third time in the past two months as he and Western countries such as the United States clash over the Ukraine conflict, which has been bringing to light other deep-seated animosity. Putin made his latest comments while en route to the annual Asia-Europe Meeting in Milan, a summit of 50 nations. “We hope that our partners will realize the recklessness of attempts to blackmail Russia, and will remember the risks that a spat between major nuclear powers means for strategic stability,” Putin told Serbian newspaper Politika. “He’s again threatened the West with nuclear weapons,” John Besemeres, a Russia expert at the ANU, told the Sydney Morning Herald. “It seems like a… fantasy he can’t go without.” The comments came as New Zealand’s Prime Minister John Key revealed he was bantering with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev earlier this year when the latter brought up the issue of nuclear war.

Look. The playbook already written shows that the USA is inconsequential in the

I feel the same way Bill, but unfortunately our commander in chief has neither the desire or the nerve to ever use our nuclear weapons. He has fired over 200 high ranking officers(generals,admirals etc) in the last 3 years or so who disagreed with his policies and has only “yes boys” left controlling our military. What Putin actually said (““We hope that our partners will realize the recklessness of attempts to blackmail Russia, and will remember the risks that a spat between major nuclear powers means for strategic stability”) is hardly a “threat”. It is an expression of a “hope” that the U.S. and its NATO allies will reign in their efforts to encircle Russia in violation of promises made at the time of the Soviet collapse.
This is just one in a long series of transparent attempts to demonize Putin and Russia and it follows on the U.S. and NATO sponsored coup against the democratically-elected government of the Ukraine in February. What did you expect Putin & his generals to say when they were backed into a corner. Since Russia represents the BRIC nations & those countries aligned with them representing 4-5 billion people, Putin & Russia with 20 – 40 thousand nuclear weapons are their protectors.
